🦋 IC Information

Character Name: Rhaenyra Targaryen
Age: 18
Canon: House of the Dragon
Canon Point: Season 1, Episode 5
Character History: Here
Canon Abilities:
dragonrider
Targaryen's are renowned for the intricate bonds they share with their dragons, made possible through the aid of blood magic and cultivation well before her time. Rhaenyra and Syrax were essentially bonded in the cradle, having grown up and matured alongside one another to form an unbreakable connection. She became her rider at the tender age of seven and has taken to the sky nearly every day since, with the dragon being fiercely protective of the princess. Her fearlessness likely strengthens the bond, as there is nowhere in Westeros she is more confident than when she on dragon back.

leadership
She has been at her father's side for many years during Small Council meeting, both as his cup bearer and eventually as a seated member of the advisers herself. Through her keen eyes she has had a front row seat to the events unfolding within the kingdom and has knowledge of politics appropriate enough for a time of peace. Unfortunately, as a woman, she is never taken seriously, and they likely tolerate her presence for little more than show. Viserys wanted her to know what she is getting into as the heir. Though he prepared her for ruling during peacetime, he did not anticipate the war that would follow his passing. Where others seek to take specific steps to reach the means to an end diplomatically (which takes away from time and resources), she impatiently cuts across the board with more practical tactics that are bold but produce favorable results faster.

diplomacy
Even from a tender age she has been able to recite walls of text from memory though she has no issue, at least for a little while, playing dumb and appearing aimless. Between her wealth of knowledge and her ability to charm nearly everyone she meets; she is a force to be reckoned with. She has no qualms about cutting someone off at the knees if she finds them particularly repugnant and, should she find them unsuitable in their stations, she speaks up rather than allow them to keep poisoning those they rub elbows with. Better to take them out root and stem than to allow them to usurp power. Her keen mind, natural charisma and ability to read a room make her a force to be reckoned with, and her ambitions are not to be taken lightly.

Inventory: Her gown and jewelry (rings, earrings, necklace) on her person.

🦋 Personality

green
The match that lights the flame, the call to arms that never should have been. While the significance of the color is new to her at the moment, it will eventually be the dividing line between houses and the crown. What began as two young girls sitting in the grass idly giggling over stories has now blossomed into adversity. What was lost can never be recovered, the wounds are far too deep to properly mend because love cannot thrive when its nourishment is lies. Alicent was the speck of normalcy and the most important woman in her life after the passing of her mother and now she has lost them both. For all of the tension between the two of them there will always be a part of her that loves her unconditionally. Due to her young age at the time of Viserys and Alicent's marriage it was much easier to latch onto the hurt and betrayal than it was to see the match for what it actually was, yet another chess piece of the game of thrones manuevered into place by Otto Hightower.

dead
The death of her mother during childbirth cast a dark shadow over her desire to have children of her own, as she does not want to be a prisoner in her own castle whose sole purpose is producing heirs until her own body eventually gives out. She views marriage as a godsend for the men who crave power but a virtual death sentence for the women who are expected to obey, it will clip her wings and keep her from enjoying what few pleasures she does have in life. She would rather chance a life of solitude than be disillusioned by the sanctity of a woman's perceived duties. The moment her mother uttered her final breath Rhaenyra's naive dreams of cultivating a family of her own died with her. She is prepared to do her duty to the crown, but she views it as a service rather than the joy motherhood should bring about.

dance
A once lighthearted and joyous spectacle, it was during one such dance that Rhaenyra learned that actions do indeed have grave consequences if one is not careful. For a perceived humiliation that she could not fathom, a marital arrangement that was already less than desired turned brutal and somber. With all her years of tutelage and the real-world experience of observing her father she still has to contend that while she was essentially born with a silver spoon in her mouth others were not. Her privileged upbringing made her learned and well-read but deprived her of opportunities that could have humbled her further, such as seeing the world through the eyes of the people and not just learned about them through secondhand accounts. Her inability to see anything beyond her own struggles mirrors what is expected of a woman of her time: nothing. She's only tasted suffering in her life once and wasn't able to properly mourn her loss before the crown once again corrected her path against her will.

pride
In a society that clearly favors men above all else she stands out as one of the few who not only speaks above the men who look down upon her but frequently delivers sound advice, reason where there is none and the occasionally scathing retort that serves to undermine their perceived greatness. She is prone to speaking her mind whether it is asked of her or not and not even the king himself is immune to her criticisms or attitude, simply because she has never had to face consequences before. As the only surviving child of the king growing up, she was awarded special privileges others were not and it's shaped her into a willful young adult who rebels at nearly every turn. This fiery spirit has put her on the receiving end of the ire of some council members who know they have little to no chance of ever controlling her like they do her father if she comes to power. Even as her father begins to wither away, her spirit continues to thrive in an environment that should have snuffed her flame out ages ago.

sin
Her hunger for the pleasures in life that she cannot be afforded due to her position. She is playful and flirtatious by nature, something that has only grown since she has come of age. An unplanned encounter with her uncle led to her finding comfort in the arms of another who wasn't entirely willing, not only disrupting her own life but those of others she never considered. She is often guilty of thinking about herself without considering what may befall others, such as causing Ser Criston to cast aside his oath of chastity simply to please her. With one encounter she nearly led a man to end his own life out of shame, destroyed the lifelong bond she shared with her best friend and planted the seed of doubt that would hang over her head like a shadow for years to come. Even with the sanctity of marriage and her willingness to perform her marital duties to the realm looming overhead, she was quick to approach Daemon for a way out when he spoke up about how dull a life with her husband-to-be would conclude. Even telling him to strike down the Kingsguard and spirit her away. She may have matured but she is a dragon still and will not settle for anything less than what she deserves.

child
For the entirety of her childhood her father longed for a son despite the fact that she was not only capable of greatness but frequently showed her prowess through acts of oftentimes fearless recklessness. Rather than continue under the mantle of a princess she wanted nothing more than to jump on the back of her dragon and live the harrowing tales she only ever read about in storybooks. Only after her mother and newborn brother passed during and shortly after childbirth did he finally look upon his daughter, seeing the fine young woman and ruler she would one day become. When introduced to her father's dream of ice and fire, she chose to put away her childish ideations and focus on the wellbeing of the kingdom and subjects that would one day be hers. Still, in her mind, she will step into her role with or without the belief of her detractors behind her, for the sheer fact that it's her birthright to do so. Her arrogance seeps into this as well, believing the opinions of the lesser do not have any basis on her claim. Ironic, considering she is fondly referred to as the Realm's Delight for her playful antics and spirited nature, and is in fact loved by the people, they simply do not believe a woman is capable of ruling.
